A bequest is a gift given in a will, usually of personal property, such as a car, furniture, or artwork. The verb form of “bequest” is “to bequeath.”
It is not necessary for a will to include the formal word “bequest” or “bequeath” to give a bequest. For example, “I bequeath my sailboat to my son, Terrence” will have the same legal effect as “I give my sailboat to my son, Terrence.”
