A notarial act or notarization is the physical act of a notary in:
- taking an acknowledgment;
- administering an oath or affirmation;
- taking a verification upon oath or affirmation;
- witnessing or attesting a signature;
- certifying or attesting a copy;
- receiving a protest of a negotiable instrument;
- certifying that an event has occurred or an act has been performed; or
- any other act that a notary public of the State of Washington is authorized to perform.1
