Revocation is a voluntary legal act with which a person terminates the legal effectiveness of a previously created legal instrument. There are specific laws and rules that determine how different types of legal instruments may be revoked. For example, the methods available for revoking a will are different than those that can be used to revoke a durable power of attorney. Some legal instruments cannot be revoked at all.
